Kendrapara ASI transferred over alleged negligence in woman’s suicide case

Bhubaneswar, Aug 7: The Superintendent of Police (SP) of Kendrapara district has transferred Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sailendra Narayan Palai of Pattamundai police station to the district police headquarters, following allegations of negligence in a case involving the tragic death of a young woman.
The incident involves a 20-year-old final-year Plus III student of Pattamundai College, who allegedly set herself ablaze by pouring kerosene on her body. The victim, a resident of Kathiapada in Pattamundai block, later succumbed to her severe burn injuries. While the motive behind her extreme action remains under investigation, her family has made grave allegations against the police.
According to the victim’s father, the girl was being blackmailed by a youth who threatened to circulate her photos and videos. Despite her repeated pleas for help, the ASI allegedly failed to act and casually advised her to block the accused’s phone number. A formal complaint had been lodged six months ago, but no action was reportedly taken.
Taking serious note, the Director General of Police (DGP) directed the Kendrapara SP to visit the scene immediately. The ASI’s transfer aims to facilitate a free and fair investigation into the matter.
