Odisha Govt to enforce compulsory retirement for inefficient officials

Bhubaneswar, Aug 5: In a bid to improve administrative efficiency and accountability, the Odisha government has decided to take stringent action against officials and employees who are found to be underperforming or failing to discharge their duties as per established rules.
During a recent high-level meeting held at the state secretariat, it was resolved that a comprehensive review of all government officials and employees will be conducted. Those deemed inefficient or incapable of fulfilling their responsibilities will face compulsory retirement.
The Chief Secretary’s office has directed all departments to submit detailed data on non-performing officials and employees by August 7. The reports must identify individuals who consistently fail to meet performance standards or demonstrate negligence in duty.
This decision is based on the General Administration Department’s earlier circular issued on September 24, 2019, which allows the government to enforce premature retirement for inefficient personnel.
The Chief Secretary’s office will closely monitor the implementation of this policy to ensure that only competent and committed employees remain in service. Officials hope the move will instill greater discipline within the bureaucracy and enhance public service delivery across departments.
