Bhitarkanika National Park reopens for tourists after three-month crocodile breeding closure
Bhubaneswar, July 31: Bhitarkanika National Park in Odisha is all set to reopen its gates to tourists tomorrow, August 1, after a scheduled three-month closure to facilitate the crocodile breeding season. The park had remained off-limits to visitors from May 1 to July 31, a critical period for estuarine crocodile nesting and hatching.
According to forest officials, the temporary shutdown was essential to ensure a disturbance-free environment for the successful breeding of these reptiles, which are an integral part of Bhitarkanika’s fragile ecosystem. With the breeding season now complete, the forest department has made elaborate arrangements to welcome tourists back.
Situated in Kendrapara district, Bhitarkanika National Park is one of India’s finest mangrove ecosystems and a popular destination for eco-tourism. It is home to a wide range of wildlife including saltwater crocodiles, spotted deer, wild boars, migratory birds, and more.
Visitors can look forward to guided boat rides through the creeks, nature trails, bird-watching, and exploring the lush mangrove forests. The reopening promises a rejuvenated experience for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts eager to reconnect with Odisha’s natural treasures.
