Odisha makes e-KYC mandatory for farmers in Kharif paddy procurement drive

Bhubaneswar : In a bid to ensure transparency and eliminate impersonation, the Odisha government has made the e-KYC (electronic Know Your Customer) process compulsory for all farmers registering for the upcoming Kharif paddy procurement season. This was announced by Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra on Tuesday.
The minister stated that the initiative aims to guarantee that only genuine farmers receive procurement benefits and payments. The e-KYC process will include biometric authentication such as fingerprint and iris scans to accurately verify farmers' identities.
"Farmers must submit their Aadhaar details and correct bank account information to complete their e-KYC, which will enable seamless and direct transfer of payments,” Patra said.
The government also plans to link farmers with their respective land records, preventing fraudulent claims and ensuring a secure procurement process. This system will provide authorities with accurate data and help identify the scale of impersonation in the state.
Patra emphasized that the move is essential for maintaining transparency, boosting efficiency, and protecting the interests of genuine cultivators during the Kharif season.
