Rourkela woman poisons daughters, attempts suicide after domestic abuse

Bhubaneswar, July 18: In a shocking incident at Bareni village under Lahunipada police station in Rourkela, a woman allegedly fed pesticide-laced cold drinks to her two daughters before consuming poison herself. The woman, identified as Tarini Munda, is in critical condition, while her daughters are reported to be stable.
The tragic event took place around 8 PM on Thursday evening. Locals quickly alerted authorities, and all three were first rushed to Banai Hospital. Due to the severity of Tarini’s condition, they were later shifted to Rourkela Government Hospital for further treatment.
Preliminary investigations and statements from villagers reveal that Tarini was a victim of prolonged domestic abuse. Her husband, Santosh Munda, is said to be a habitual drunkard who frequently engaged in physical violence and created disturbances at home. Unable to cope with the ongoing torment, Tarini reportedly took the extreme step in desperation.
Police have launched an investigation into the matter. The incident has sparked concern and outrage, with many urging for stronger action against domestic violence and better support for vulnerable women.
