Bhubaneswar, July 16: In a horrifying incident in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, a 50-year-old man allegedly murdered his elderly parents by brutally attacking them with a stone. The shocking crime took place in Dhanapal village under Baisinga police station limits late on Tuesday night.

The deceased have been identified as 80-year-old Hadibandhu Sahu and his 72-year-old wife, Shanti Sahu. According to preliminary reports, their son Himanshu, a habitual drunkard, had been living separately with a married woman in Manatri, around 3 kilometers from his parental home. He would often visit his parents and engage in heated arguments.

On the night of the incident, Himanshu allegedly arrived at the house in a drunken state and picked a quarrel with his bedridden father. In a fit of rage, he reportedly killed him on the spot and then turned on his mother, pushing her down the stairs and smashing her head with a heavy stone.

The bodies were discovered by neighbours the following morning, who immediately alerted police. A Baisinga police team and forensic experts reached the scene and began investigations. Himanshu was found sleeping in an intoxicated state on the veranda and was arrested. Police have seized the murder weapon.
