Rahul Gandhi speaks to Soumyashree’s father, calls incident ‘inhuman and shameful

Bhubaneswar, July 16: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of Soumyashree Bisi, the 20-year-old student from Fakir Mohan Autonomous College in Balasore who tragically ended her life after allegedly facing mental and sexual harassment by a lecturer. In a compassionate gesture, Gandhi personally spoke to Soumyashree’s father, offering solidarity and support during this time of immense grief.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Gandhi said, “Spoke with the father of the brave daughter who lost her life in the fight for justice in Balasore, Odisha. In his voice, I felt his daughter’s pain, dreams, and struggle. Assured him that the Congress Party and I stand with them at every step.”
He strongly condemned the incident, terming it “inhuman and shameful,” and described it as a wound on the conscience of society. He further assured the family that all possible efforts would be made to ensure justice is delivered.
As a mark of protest, the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee has called for a statewide bandh on July 17, demanding immediate action against the accused and justice for Soumyashree’s grieving family.
