Former Sarpanch hacked to death in Subarnapur; two detained, manhunt launched for others

Bhubaneswar, July 11: In a shocking incident, the former Sarpanch of Gajabandha panchayat under Dunguripali block in Subarnapur district was brutally murdered on his way home to Kenpali village late Thursday evening. The deceased has been identified as Ballav Kheti, a prominent local leader and husband of the current Sarpanch, Basanti Kheti.
According to sources, the gruesome attack took place near Pandarapali village, where unidentified assailants ambushed Kheti and assaulted him with sharp-edged weapons. He sustained grievous injuries to the head and other parts of his body. Locals, who discovered him lying in a pool of blood, immediately rushed him to the Dunguripali Community Health Centre. However, doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
Rampur police reached the spot soon after receiving information, seized the body for post-mortem, and initiated a murder investigation. So far, two individuals have been detained for questioning in connection with the crime, while a search is underway to nab two more suspects who remain absconding.
The motive behind the murder is yet to be confirmed, though police are exploring all angles, including political rivalry and personal enmity. Tension prevails in the area following the incident.
