IMD issues thunderstorm and heavy rain warnings for several Odisha districts
Bhubaneswar, June 24: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow and orange warnings for several districts across Odisha, forecasting thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, and gusty winds over the next few days. Residents have been advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions.
On Day 1 (June 25), thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph, and heavy rain are expected at isolated places in the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Boudh, Sonepur, Rayagada, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, and Gajapati. Additionally, thunderstorms with gusty winds and lightning may also occur in Koraput, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, and Ganjam.
On Day 2 (June 25–26), an orange warning has been issued for Mayurbhanj, Balasore, and Keonjhar due to the likelihood of very heavy rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds. A yellow alert has been extended to Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, and Dhenkanal, where heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected. Other districts, including Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati, may also experience thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds.
On Day 3 (June 26–27), Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj remain under an orange warning with forecasts of heavy to very heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and strong surface winds. The IMD has urged people in vulnerable areas to stay updated with weather advisories and avoid unnecessary travel during intense weather periods.
