Bhubaneswar, June 24: In a shocking development linked to the alleged molestation and assault of two women from Delhi in Odisha’s Jajpur district, one of the accused, Anil Jena (30), reportedly attempted suicide by consuming oleander fruit during a police raid at his residence on Monday night.
According to police sources, Anil was immediately rescued and rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital in Jajpur, where he is currently undergoing treatment. Meanwhile, the second accused, identified as Nitesh Jena (20), remains at large. “Efforts are underway to apprehend him,” said Jajpur Superintendent of Police, Yashpratap Shrimal.
The incident occurred on Sunday night when the two women were returning to Tarangasagarpur village after visiting Maa Biraja Temple. One of them, a local, had come home for her father’s first death anniversary and was accompanied by a friend from Delhi.
After alighting at Patanasahi Chhak around 9:30 pm, they called her brother due to safety concerns. The accused allegedly intercepted them, made obscene remarks, misbehaved, and assaulted them. When the woman's brothers intervened, they too were attacked.
