Bhubaneswar, June 23: A youth sustained critical injuries after being shot by unidentified miscreants on National Highway 18 near Asanajoda in Baripada on Monday. The shocking incident has triggered panic among locals and raised concerns about public safety along the busy highway.

According to preliminary reports, the victim was being chased by three armed assailants on a motorcycle. The miscreants allegedly opened fire, discharging at least five rounds. The youth was hit in the head and leg, leaving him severely injured. Eyewitnesses suspect the attack may have been linked to a robbery attempt, although the exact motive is yet to be confirmed.

Following the incident, local residents alerted the police, who reached the spot and launched an investigation. Authorities are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify and trace the attackers. Forensic teams have also been deployed to collect evidence from the crime scene.

The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment. His condition is reported to be critical.
