CM Mohan Majhi celebrates Yoga as India’s gift to the World on International Yoga Day

Bhubaneswar, June 21: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi hailed yoga as a timeless gift from India to humanity during the state-level International Yoga Day celebrations held at Kalinga Stadium. The event, organised by the Sports and Youth Services Department, witnessed widespread participation from students, yoga enthusiasts, and citizens.
Addressing the gathering, CM Majhi joined the mass yoga practice and underlined the holistic benefits of yoga, describing it as more than just a physical exercise. “Yoga blends physical, intellectual, mental, and spiritual development. It transcends religion and is a universal practice for well-being,” he said.
The Chief Minister highlighted that yoga, deeply rooted in India’s culture, was globalised due to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts. “Within six months of taking office in 2014, PM Modi’s push led to the United Nations declaring June 21 as International Yoga Day,” he added.
Prime Minister Modi also addressed the nation via video conferencing on the occasion.
CM Majhi spoke on this year’s theme, ‘Yoga for One Earth, One Health’, which reflects the interconnection between personal health and the planet. “Yoga encourages a lifestyle that respects nature and all living beings. By adopting yoga, individuals contribute to a healthier and more sustainable world,” he said.
