Two low-pressure areas form over Bay of Bengal; IMD issues alerts for heavy rainfall in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, June 17: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported the formation of two low-pressure areas over the Bay of Bengal, both influenced by active cyclonic circulation. These systems are expected to intensify further within the next 24 hours, potentially impacting weather conditions across several states, including Odisha.
Due to the developing weather systems, the IMD has issued an orange warning for Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh districts, indicating the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds. Additionally, nine other districts have been placed under a yellow alert, warning of moderate to heavy rain and gusty winds.
As per the latest forecast, Odisha is expected to experience widespread rainfall on June 18, 19, and 20. The IMD also stated that conditions are becoming favourable for the southwest monsoon to advance into the state within the next 24 hours, which will further enhance rainfall activity.
Authorities have urged residents, especially in vulnerable areas, to stay alert and follow official advisories for safety. Disaster response teams are being prepared for any emergencies.
