Bhubaneswar, June 9: In a tragic road accident, a father and son lost their lives after being hit by an unidentified vehicle near Galigura Ghati in Baliguda, Kandhamal district, on Sunday night. The deceased have been identified as Hema Kanhar and his son Nilakantha Kanhar, residents of Sirshipanga village under Rutungia panchayat in the Baliguda police limits.

According to sources, the duo was returning home on a motorcycle from Raipanga village when an unknown vehicle ran them over. Hema died on the spot, while Nilakantha, who sustained critical injuries, was immediately rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital. However, despite efforts, doctors declared him dead on arrival.

The incident has triggered anger and sorrow in the local community. Villagers expressed strong resentment over the delayed arrival of the ambulance, claiming that prompt medical attention might have saved Nilakantha’s life.

Baliguda police reached the scene shortly after receiving information, recovered the bodies, and sent them for post-mortem. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway to trace the vehicle involved in the fatal hit-and-run.
