IMD issues thunderstorm and rainfall warning for Odisha

Bhubaneswar, June 9: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for Odisha, predicting thunderstorms, gusty winds, and heavy rainfall in several districts over the next few days. For June 10, an orange warning has been issued for the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, and Angul, where thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 50-60 kmph are likely to occur.
In addition to this, a yellow warning has been issued for a broader set of districts, including Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khordha, Sundargarh, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Puri, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Nabarangapur, Gajapati, Ganjam, Malkangiri, Koraput, Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir, Rayagada, Deogarh, and Dhenkanal. These regions may experience thunderstorms with lightning and winds between 30-50 kmph during this period.
According to the regional weather office, between June 10 and June 16, thunderstorms and gusty winds are expected to persist across multiple districts, including Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Angul, Puri, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Gajapati, Ganjam, Malkangiri, Koraput, Boudh, Rayagada, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, and Khordha.
Heavy rainfall has also been predicted, with Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar likely to receive significant precipitation on June 14 and 15, while Cuttack and Nayagarh may experience heavy showers on June 15 and 16. However, the IMD has clarified that no major change in maximum daytime temperatures is expected over the next 6 to 7 days.
