Minister orders probe into 6 deaths at Koraput SLNMCH, report due in 3 days

Bhubaneswar, June 5: In response to the alarming deaths of six patients at Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital (SLNMCH) in Koraput, Odisha Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling has ordered a high-level inquiry. During his visit to the hospital on Thursday, the minister directed a special team of medical experts to submit a detailed investigation report within three days.
The expert team comprises assistant professors from MKCG Medical College in Berhampur and SCB Medical College in Cuttack. They have been tasked with conducting a case-wise clinical analysis of each death to determine the exact cause and any possible lapses in treatment or care.
Preliminary findings indicate that the deceased included a terminal cancer patient, two victims of road accidents, two stabbing victims, and one patient with interstitial lung disease. Mahaling stated that the exact reasons would be confirmed only after post-mortem results and expert reviews.
He assured that accountability will be fixed once the final report is received. The Koraput district administration has been instructed to assist affected families through the Red Cross. “We are treating this as a grave and urgent matter,” Mahaling emphasized.
