Bhubaneswar, June 5: A tragic incident unfolded in Gokulpur village under Rahania panchayat in Mahanga block of Cuttack district, where a 65-year-old woman lost her life and another man sustained critical injuries following a violent attack by a swarm of bees. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening, but the woman, identified as Pata Dei, succumbed to her injuries on Thursday morning.

According to local sources, Pata Dei had ventured into a nearby forest to collect firewood when she was suddenly attacked by a swarm of bees. She was immediately rushed to the Mahanga Community Health Centre (CHC) by villagers but could not be saved due to the severity of her injuries.

Another villager, Birendra Das, who was also present in the area, suffered multiple bee stings and remains in critical condition. He is currently undergoing treatment at the CHC.

Residents have expressed growing alarm over the rise in bee attacks in the area, with several people reportedly injured in recent days. Locals have urged the forest department and district administration to take immediate steps to identify and relocate the beehives to prevent further tragedies.
