Odisha CM unveils massive green drive: 7.5 crore saplings to be planted in 2025

Bhubaneswar, June 5: On the occasion of World Environment Day 2025, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced an ambitious initiative to plant 7.5 crore saplings across the state this year, reaffirming the government’s strong commitment to environmental protection and climate action.
Addressing a state-level event at Krushi Shiksha Sadan in OUAT, Bhubaneswar, CM Majhi emphasized the urgent need to combat pollution and climate change through sustained public involvement and eco-friendly practices. “Environmental degradation is one of the greatest threats to our future. Let this day be a call to action for every citizen to protect our natural resources,” he said.
The Chief Minister criticized the continued use of single-use plastic, linking it to soil, water, and air pollution. He stressed the importance of turning plastic waste management into a people’s movement and highlighted the launch of the State Clean Air Programme targeting urban air pollution.
CM Majhi also lauded the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign for helping plant over 6.5 crore trees and noted a 560 sq. km rise in green cover under his government. He formally declared Similipal as India’s 107th National Park and launched the Rs 50-crore ‘Ama Similipal’ project for its conservation.
