7-month-old white tiger cub dies at Nandankanan Zoo

Bhubaneswar, June 2: In a heartbreaking development, a 7-month-old white tiger cub died at Nandankanan Zoological Park near Bhubaneswar on Monday, leaving zoo authorities and wildlife enthusiasts in deep sorrow. The cub was born in November 2024 to white tiger parents Krishna and Rupa and had since been under close observation.
According to zoo officials, the cub fell seriously ill in March and was separated from its enclosure for intensive treatment. After showing signs of recovery, it was reintroduced to its enclosure. However, in a tragic turn of events, the young cub died unexpectedly on Sunday night.
The exact cause of death remains unknown and will be confirmed following a post-mortem examination. Zoo veterinarians and authorities have assured that all necessary procedures are being followed to determine the underlying cause.
The sudden loss of the cub has shocked zoo staff and saddened numerous visitors and wildlife lovers. With this death, Nandankanan's tiger population now stands at 27 — including 18 normal-coloured tigers, five white tigers, and four melanistic tigers. The zoo remains a vital center for big cat conservation in the region.
