Body of 6-year-old girl recovered from uncovered septic tank in Rourkela

Bhubaneswar, May 29: In a heart-wrenching incident, the body of a six-year-old girl was recovered from an uncovered septic tank in Chhend Colony of Rourkela on Thursday, sparking grief and anger in the local community.
The deceased has been identified as Sorun Badaik, a resident of the area. According to preliminary information, the girl had been playing near her house when she accidentally fell into the open septic tank, which is estimated to be about 30 feet deep. The tank reportedly had no cover, raising serious concerns about negligence and public safety.
After she was reported missing, locals began searching the area and eventually noticed the uncovered tank. The Chhend police were informed, and with the help of rescue personnel, Sorun's body was recovered from the tank.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to determine responsibility. The body has been sent to the Rourkela Government Hospital for post-mortem examination. Meanwhile, residents have demanded strict action against those responsible for leaving the tank open and called on authorities to ensure such negligence does not recur.
