Youth kills mother over money for drugs in Puri

Bhubaneswar, May 29: In a heart-wrenching incident that has shocked the residents of Samangara village under Puri Sadar police limits, a 30-year-old man allegedly killed his own mother after she refused to give him money to buy drugs.

The accused, identified as Pinku Pradhan, reportedly got into an argument with his 55-year-old mother, Kanak Pradhan, on Thursday morning. According to sources, Pinku, who was addicted to substance abuse, demanded money from his mother. When she denied his demand, an enraged Pinku attacked her with a sickle. The brutal assault caused severe injuries to Kanak’s head, leading to her death on the spot.

Hearing her cries, nearby villagers rushed to the scene but were allegedly attacked by Pinku as well. Despite his aggression, the villagers managed to overpower him and tied him up before informing the local police.

The police arrived promptly, arrested Pinku, and took him into custody. Kanak Pradhan's body was sent for post-mortem examination. The gruesome act of matricide has left the local community in deep shock and mourning.
