IMD issues orange and yellow alerts for Odisha: Thunderstorms and heavy rain forecast for next five days

Bhubaneswar, May 28: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a series of orange and yellow warnings across Odisha, forecasting thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds, and heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next five days. The alerts cover several districts and vary in severity depending on the forecast for each day.
Day 1 (Until 08:30 AM, May 29):
Orange warnings have been issued for Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, and Jajpur districts, which are likely to witness thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, gusty winds of 40-50 kmph, and heavy to very heavy rainfall. Meanwhile, yellow alerts have been declared for Puri, Khurda, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Koraput, Malkangiri, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Gajapati, Bargarh, Nuapada, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Nabarangapur, and Boudh due to the possibility of heavy rain and strong winds. In addition, districts like Ganjam, Angul, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Balangir, and Nayagarh may experience thunderstorms with lightning and winds in the afternoon and evening.
Day 2 (From 08:30 AM, May 29 to 08:30 AM, May 30):
An orange warning continues for Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Cuttack, Rayagada, and Koraput, where gusty winds reaching 50-60 kmph and heavy to very heavy rainfall are expected. Yellow alerts have been issued for Khurda, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Nabarangapur, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Malkangiri, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Kendrapara, and Jajpur. Thunderstorms and lightning with gusty winds up to 50 kmph are also likely in Sonepur, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Angul, Deogarh, Balangir, Boudh, Bargarh, and Nuapada during the afternoon or evening.
Day 3 (From 08:30 AM, May 30 to 08:30 AM, May 31):
Orange alerts have been issued for Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, and Kendrapara, where thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds of 50-60 kmph, and heavy to very heavy rainfall are expected. Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Nabarangapur, Malkangiri, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Jajpur, Sundargarh, Angul, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Rayagada, and Koraput may experience heavy rainfall and thunderstorms with similar wind speeds. Yellow alerts have been extended to Nuapada, Balangir, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Deogarh, Boudh, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, and Ganjam, which could witness evening thunderstorms with winds of 40-50 kmph.
