Sambalpur headmistress dies of electrocution while operating motor pump, husband injured

Bhubaneswar, May 27: In a tragic incident, a 52-year-old headmistress of Batagaon Upper Primary School under Naktideul block in Sambalpur district lost her life due to electrocution while trying to operate a motor pump at her residence on Tuesday morning.
The deceased, identified as Anita Purohit, was a respected educator and resident of Lugadia village. She was attempting to switch on the motor pump to draw water from a well when she accidentally came into contact with a live electrical wire.
Her husband, Santosh Purohit, sustained injuries while trying to rescue her. Witnessing the incident, two local residents quickly rushed to their aid and used a wooden stick to disconnect the wire, ultimately saving Santosh’s life.
Both Anita and her husband were immediately rushed to Naktideula Hospital, where doctors declared Anita dead on arrival. Santosh is currently undergoing treatment for his injuries.
Anita was widely known for her dedication to education and her community service. Her untimely death has left the entire village in mourning. Police have registered a case of unnatural death, and the body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
