SRC issues high alert to districts amid low-pressure forecast over Bay of Bengal

Bhubaneswar, May 27: With the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting the formation of a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, the Odisha Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has issued a high alert to all District Collectors, urging them to remain vigilant and ensure full preparedness for potential rainfall and thunderstorms.
According to official reports, the SRC has specifically directed districts under orange and yellow warnings to activate their disaster response protocols and keep administrative machinery on standby. The directive emphasizes readiness to handle any emergencies that may arise from severe weather conditions.
Citizens have been advised to stay updated with weather bulletins and adopt necessary safety measures. In particular, during thunderstorms, people should avoid open areas and seek shelter to protect themselves from lightning and other hazards.
Fishermen have been instructed to adhere strictly to safety guidelines, as the turbulent sea conditions could pose significant risks to coastal communities.
The SRC has also mandated that districts submit immediate reports on any damage or incidents caused by thunderstorms, lightning, hailstorms, or heavy rainfall. These reports will help the state government assess the impact and take swift action for relief and recovery.
