BMC's Readiness for Impending Heavy Rainfall

Bhubaneswar  - BMC has taken proactive steps in response to the anticipated heavy rainfall from October 1 to 3, as per the India Meteorological Department's weather forecast. A preparatory meeting was convened today at BMC headquarters to ensure the city's preparedness.

To address potential challenges arising from heavy rainfall, BMC has activated its 24*7 city call center, which will be fully operational to manage issues related to waterlogging and other concerns. In light of the situation, all leaves for BMC officials have been canceled to ensure a swift and coordinated response.

Citizens are urged to contact BMC through the toll-free number 1929 to report incidents of waterlogging, fallen tree branches, or any other weather-related issues. To enhance community engagement, officials are told to create WhatsApp groups to share information and report concerns promptly.

In line with our preparations, deputy commissioners have been instructed to identify low-lying areas and collaborate with Block Education Officers (BEOs) and school headmasters to designate shelter locations. Ward-level preparations are underway, with the active involvement of local corporators.

Furthermore, BMC is proactively monitoring the cleanliness of drainage systems and taking measures to clear debris and ensure the unobstructed flow of water. Identifying potential waterlogging areas is a priority, and BMC is ensuring an ample supply of pump sets and generators for efficient drainage.

Additionally, teams have been tasked with identifying potential waterlogging areas and ensuring an adequate supply of pump sets and generators. The Odraf and Fire departments are on standby with necessary equipment. Medical personnel and health officers are ready to respond to emergencies.

In anticipation of possible scenarios involving fallen trees or electric poles, a state of high readiness has been declared. Adequate supplies of dry food have been secured. The condition of buildings and structures near drainage lines is being assessed, and bamboo barricades are being erected in flood-prone areas. Proactive measures have been taken to address potential waterlogging issues near City Women's College.

BMC is also working closely with its sanitation teams and sanitation agency staff and workers to ensure a swift response to any sanitation-related challenges.

Under the guidance of BMC Commissioner Shri Vijay Amruta Kulange, the meeting was attended by Additional Commissioner Shri Laxmikanta Sethi, Shri Subhendu Kumah Sahu, Shri Suryavanshi Mayur Vikash, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Manoranjan Sahu, zonal deputy commissioners, and senior officials of BMC.

BMC is dedicated to safeguarding the well-being of Bhubaneswar's residents during this period of anticipated heavy rainfall, and citizens are encouraged to stay vigilant, stay safe, and report any issues promptly.
