Southwest monsoon likely to hit Kerala in 4–5 days, early arrival expected in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, May 20: The southwest monsoon is likely to reach Kerala’s coast within the next four to five days, with meteorological conditions showing strong signs of its imminent arrival. This development could mark the beginning of much-needed relief from the intense summer heat gripping various parts of the country.
Weather scientist Uma Shankar Das confirmed that the monsoon has already made its onset over the South Andaman Sea on May 13 and is steadily progressing toward the Bay of Bengal and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Sharing the update on social media platform X, Das wrote, “Monsoon to hit Kerala! Weather conditions are entirely favorable for the southwest monsoon to reach Kerala’s coast in the next 4-5 days.”
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier forecast an early arrival of the monsoon this year, ahead of its usual onset date of June 1.
In Odisha, the monsoon is expected to arrive by the second week of June. Its early arrival is anticipated to bring respite from soaring temperatures and benefit farmers preparing for the Kharif crop season.
