PM Modi to hold high-level meeting with four CMs on Polavaram Project on May 28

Bhubaneswar, May 19: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to hold a high-stakes meeting on May 28 with the Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh to resolve long-standing disputes surrounding the Polavaram Project. This marks the first time the Prime Minister will directly engage with the Chief Ministers of all four states involved in the contentious multipurpose irrigation and hydroelectric venture.
The Polavaram Project, located in Andhra Pradesh, has been mired in controversy for years, with Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and Telangana raising objections over submergence of land, environmental concerns, and displacement of people. The upcoming meeting is expected to focus on addressing these inter-state issues and finding a collaborative solution.
Chief Secretaries of the concerned states have already been briefed via video conferencing. The meeting will see participation from the Chief Ministers, Irrigation Ministers, senior state officials, and representatives from the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti, Central Water Commission, and Polavaram Project Authority.
Ahead of the talks, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi chaired a preparatory session to finalise the state’s official stance. Several related petitions are still pending before the Supreme Court.
