Lakhimpur Kheri Violence: Main Accused Ashish Mishra Arrested

Ashish Mishra, the main accused in the Lakhimpur Kheri case in Uttar Pradesh and the son of Union Minister, was arrested late on Saturday and remanded in custody for three days after being interrogated yesterday. Ashish Mishra is accused of driving on a group of farmers were trampled over by a SUV belonging to him on October 3. There are also allegations of shooting. Some of the ammunition in the jeep he was involved in was also confiscated. During the interrogation, he was asked a number of questions. He could not answer any questions, nor could he prove that he was not present at the time of the incident. According to a senior official in the investigation team, Ashish Mishra was not able to explain his location between 2.30 pm and 3.30 pm. on October 3 when the incident took place. Witnesses have said he was missing from the event between 2 and 4 pm, his phone location showed him closer to the crime scene.
To be noted that Ashish Mishra was arrested a day after the Supreme Court reminded the Uttar Pradesh government that the law must take its course against ‘whoever is involved’ amid nationwide outrage over the incident
