Odisha reels under scorching heatwave, Kalbaisakhi rain offers hope of relief

Bhubaneswar, May 16: Odisha is currently facing an intense heatwave, with temperatures soaring relentlessly across the state. Even during the early hours today, Bhubaneswar recorded a scorching 32.8 degrees Celsius, signaling the unrelenting grip of the heatwave.
The oppressive sun, combined with high humidity levels, has made daily life unbearable, as residents compare the experience to being trapped in a steaming cauldron.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for 18 districts, forecasting the possibility of Kalbaisakhi rain in the coming days. According to IMD predictions, temperatures in northern interior Odisha are expected to drop by 4 to 5 degrees Celsius, while southern interior Odisha and a few pockets of the northern interior region may experience a 2 to 3 degree Celsius dip. This change is anticipated to last until May 18.
However, once the rain's influence fades, no significant changes in day temperatures are expected for the following week. While brief, the incoming Kalbaisakhi showers are expected to bring much-needed relief from the sweltering conditions tormenting the people of Odisha.
