IMD issues heatwave alert for Odisha from May 8 to 14

Bhubaneswar, May 8: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave and hot-humid weather alert for several districts of Odisha, effective from May 8 to May 14. The forecast indicates soaring temperatures and oppressive conditions across both coastal and western regions of the state.
From May 8 to 9, hot and humid conditions are likely to affect coastal districts such as Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Khurda, Cuttack, and Jajpur. The IMD cautioned that discomfort levels will remain high during this period.
Starting May 10, heatwave conditions are expected to grip western Odisha districts including Jharsuguda, Boudh, Balangir, Sundargarh, and Sambalpur. These regions will likely face extreme temperatures for several consecutive days. Meanwhile, the coastal districts will continue to reel under hot and humid weather.
The forecast suggests that heatwave conditions will persist in parts of western Odisha through May 13, with intermittent hot-humid spells in coastal areas. The IMD has advised people to stay hydrated, avoid heat exposure, and take necessary precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses.
