Russian Embassy to honour Biju Patnaik on Victory Day for his WWII contribution

Bhubaneswar, May 6: The Russian Embassy in New Delhi will honour former Odisha Chief Minister Biju Patnaik during the 80th anniversary of Victory Day, which commemorates the Soviet Union’s triumph over Nazi Germany in World War II. The ceremony, scheduled for May 9, will recognise international contributions to the anti-Nazi efforts during the war.
Russian Ambassador to India, Denis Alipov, has extended an invitation to Biju Patnaik’s son and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president Naveen Patnaik to attend the commemorative event. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will be the chief guest at the ceremony.
In a heartfelt letter, Ambassador Alipov paid tribute to Biju Patnaik’s role as a valiant pilot for the Indian National Airways, who took part in the critical Stalingrad Operation by supplying weapons to the besieged Red Army. In 1995, the Russian government had honoured Patnaik with the jubilee medal commemorating the 50th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
The event will serve as a tribute to the brave individuals who stood against Nazism, including global allies like Biju Patnaik, whose courage remains an enduring legacy.
