Nationwide Civil Defence mock drill on May 7; 12 key locations identified in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, May 6: In the wake of the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22 that claimed 26 lives, and amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has announced a nationwide Civil Defence Mock Drill scheduled for May 7, 2025. The exercise is aimed at strengthening national preparedness against potential security threats and emergencies.
The MHA has issued formal instructions to Chief Secretaries of all States and Union Territories, directing Civil Defence authorities to conduct coordinated mock drills across 244 designated Civil Defence Districts throughout the country. The drills will simulate emergency scenarios to evaluate the readiness and responsiveness of local administrations and emergency services.
In Odisha, the mock drill will be carried out at 12 strategic locations: Balasore, Koraput, Bhubaneswar, Gopalpur, Hirakud, Paradip, Rourkela, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, and Talcher. These sites have been chosen for their critical infrastructure and vulnerability levels.
Officials believe the exercise will help identify gaps in the emergency response systems and enhance coordination among various departments to deal effectively with crisis situations in the future.
