Sarpanch’s husband and father-in-law hacked to death in Rayagada

Bhubaneswar, May 3: In a gruesome incident late Friday night, unidentified miscreants allegedly hacked to death the husband and father-in-law of the Likitipadar panchayat sarpanch over a land dispute at Sarigada village under Padmapur block in Rayagada district.
The victims have been identified as Agadhu Gamang, the sarpanch’s husband, and his father Suma Gamang.
According to reports, the attackers barged into the sarpanch’s house and got into a heated altercation with Agadhu and Suma in her presence. The confrontation quickly turned violent as the miscreants attacked the duo with sharp weapons. The sarpanch reportedly fled to save her life, while her husband and father-in-law were fatally assaulted. Their bodies were later found lying in the courtyard.
Gunupur SDPO and Padmapur police reached the spot upon being alerted and sent the bodies for post-mortem. Preliminary investigations suggest an ongoing land dispute may have triggered the attack. However, police are yet to confirm the exact motive.
A manhunt has been launched to nab the culprits. The village remains tense, with police maintaining strict vigil to prevent any flare-ups.
