Two cops injured while foiling extortion bid on NH-60 in Balasore; four miscreants nabbed

Bhubaneswar, May 2: Two police personnel from Jaleswar police station were injured on Thursday while foiling an extortion attempt near Shantia Square on National Highway 60 under Jaleswar police limits in Odisha’s Balasore district.
According to reports, the incident occurred when a group of miscreants attempted to extort money from a truck driver who had stopped for tea along with his helper. When the driver refused to pay, the miscreants assaulted him brutally, leaving him injured.
Upon receiving a tip-off, a police team led by a sub-inspector (SI) and a female constable rushed to the scene to intervene. However, instead of fleeing, the miscreants turned violent and attacked the police officers. Both the SI and the constable sustained injuries in the scuffle.
Despite the sudden aggression, the police team managed to overpower the attackers and arrested four individuals involved in the extortion racket. The injured officers were taken for medical treatment, while further investigation is underway to identify if more people are involved in the gang.
