Nor’wester-induced rainfall to lash Odisha for five days; IMD issues alerts for multiple districts

Bhubaneswar, April 30: Odisha is set to witness a fresh spell of Nor’wester-induced rain and thunderstorms for the next five days starting today, according to the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre. The weather department has predicted lightning, thunder, hailstorms, and heavy rainfall across various parts of the state until May 3.
An orange warning has been issued for six districts—Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, and Kendrapara—for the next 24 hours, forecasting intense lightning, thunder, and wind speeds ranging from 50 to 60 kmph.
A yellow warning has also been issued for Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Angul, and Dhenkanal, anticipating wind speeds of 40 to 50 kmph along with thunderstorms and lightning. In total, 17 districts are under a yellow warning for similar conditions.
Additionally, 14 districts are expected to experience heavy rainfall and gusty winds of 40 to 50 kmph today. A separate yellow alert has been issued for 10 districts predicting wind speeds between 30 to 40 kmph.
Due to the Nor’wester, known locally as Kalabaisakhi, daytime temperatures have dipped. However, no major change in maximum temperature is expected for the next four days, though a rise of 2 to 4°C is likely afterward.
