Commissionerate Police seize cannabis worth over Rs 1 crore, arrest two

Bhubaneswar, April 28: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the Commissionerate Police on Monday seized cannabis valued at over Rs 1 crore and arrested two persons involved in the smuggling operation. Acting on reliable intelligence, the Special Crime Unit intercepted a truck near Kharavela Park in the Khandagiri area of Bhubaneswar.
Upon conducting a thorough search, the police discovered that the truck, which was falsely registered as a camphor transporter, was actually carrying five quintals of cannabis. The illegal consignment was cleverly concealed behind packets of camphor to avoid detection.
Initial investigations revealed that the contraband was sourced from Phulbani and was en route to Himachal Pradesh, indicating a well-organized interstate smuggling network.
The arrested individuals are currently being interrogated to extract more information about the broader supply chain. The Commissionerate Police have launched an extensive investigation to identify the masterminds behind the racket and uncover possible links to larger trafficking syndicates operating across state borders.
Officials emphasized that more arrests are likely in the coming days as the probe deepens.
