Bhubaneswar, April 21: In a horrifying incident that has sent shockwaves through Dhenkanal district, a young man was allegedly shot and then brutally beaten to death near Gopal Sagar School on Sunday night.

The deceased has been identified as Maheshwar Behera, also known as Titan, a resident of Karigarasahi. According to reports, the attack occurred around 9 p.m. while Titan was returning home on his motorcycle. He was first shot in the leg, causing him to crash and fall. Hearing the gunfire, his wife rushed out of their home and found him injured and struggling to escape.

Before she could intervene, the miscreants dragged Titan to a nearby spot and allegedly killed him by pelting stones. The attackers then fled the scene. Titan was rushed to Dhenkanal District Headquarters Hospital around 11 p.m., but doctors declared him dead on arrival.

His wife has alleged that the murder stemmed from a long-standing personal dispute. Police have launched an investigation, with the Sub-Divisional Police Officer and Inspector-In-Charge leading the probe.

The brutal killing has triggered widespread outrage in the locality, with residents demanding swift justice and stricter action against rising criminal activities.
