Odisha govt approves 2,000 new posts to boost traffic and road safety

Bhubaneswar, April 17: In a major move to improve road safety and traffic management, the Odisha government has approved the creation of 2,000 new posts under its Traffic and Road Safety Wing.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi made the announcement on his official X handle, reaffirming the government’s commitment to enhancing public safety and tackling traffic congestion through better infrastructure and manpower.
Of the newly sanctioned posts, 70 will be at the state level and 1,930 at the district level. The state-level posts include one ADG/IG, one DIG, two SPs, four DSPs, six Inspectors, eight SIs, eight ASIs, 22 Constables, 10 Drivers, and support staff including one Establishment Officer, one Section Officer, three ASOs, and three Junior Assistants.
At the district level, the posts include five DSPs, 41 Inspectors, 83 SIs, 83 ASIs, 310 Havildars, and 1,408 Constables. The expansion is expected to strengthen enforcement mechanisms and address manpower shortages across the state.
“This will significantly improve traffic management and road safety across Odisha,” said CM Majhi. The move is widely seen as a proactive response to growing concerns over rising traffic and road safety challenges, especially in urban areas.
