Swarm of honeybees attacks devotees at Chandragiri Shiva Temple; 20 injured

Bhubaneswar, April 14: At least 20 devotees sustained injuries after being attacked by a swarm of honeybees at the Chandragiri Shiva Temple under Mohana police limits in Gajapati district on Monday. The incident took place during a large religious gathering for Pana Sankranti, a significant festival in Odisha that marks the Odia New Year.
Thousands of devotees had assembled at the temple premises to offer prayers when chaos erupted as a swarm of wild bees suddenly emerged from a nearby tree and began attacking the crowd. Panic spread rapidly, with people seen running in different directions to escape the stings.
Eyewitnesses described the situation as terrifying, with many unable to escape in time. Local authorities and temple volunteers quickly intervened to assist the injured and manage the crowd. The injured were rushed to Chandragiri Hospital, where several are reportedly in critical condition and are undergoing treatment.
