Low-pressure system in Bay of Bengal intensifies, may impact Odisha's weather

Bhubaneswar, April 8: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported that the low-pressure area over the southwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal has intensified into a well-marked low-pressure system as of 8:30 AM IST on April 8, 2025.
While no cyclone warning has been issued yet, the IMD has indicated that the system may develop further, possibly evolving into a cyclonic storm if conditions remain favorable.
As per the IMD’s regional weather center, the system is currently moving in a north-northwestward direction over the west-central Bay of Bengal and is likely to maintain its intensity over the next 24 hours. Following this period, it is expected to shift direction and recurve north-northeastwards, gradually weakening over the central Bay of Bengal in the following 24 hours.
The intensification of this weather system may result in enhanced rainfall activity, particularly in parts of coastal Odisha. Fishermen have been advised to stay cautious and not venture into the sea. The IMD continues to closely monitor the situation and will issue further updates as needed.
