Low-pressure area forms over South Bay of Bengal, IMD issues rain and thunderstorm warnings

Bhubaneswar, April 7: A low-pressure area has developed over the central parts of the south Bay of Bengal, influenced by an upper-air cyclonic circulation over the southeast Bay and adjoining regions, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported.
The system formed around 8:30 AM on Monday and is associated with a cyclonic circulation extending up to 5.8 km above sea level. The IMD predicts that it will move northwestward over the southwest Bay of Bengal until April 8, and then shift nearly northwards over the west-central Bay during the following 48 hours.
As per the IMD's midday weather bulletin, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely in the afternoon or evening at isolated places in 19 Odisha districts, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Puri, Khurda, Ganjam, and others. Dry weather is expected in the rest of the state from April 8 to April 14.
A Yellow Warning has also been issued for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (30-40 km/h) in several districts from April 9 to 11.
Regarding temperature, no major change is expected in the next 24 hours, but a dip of 2-3°C is likely afterward. However, places like Angul, Bolangir, Titlagarh, and Rourkela may see maximum temperatures touching or exceeding 40°C.
