Oxygen cylinder blast in ambulance injures elderly woman and family in Balangir

Bhubaneswar, April 4: In a shocking incident on Friday, an oxygen cylinder exploded inside an ambulance on its way to Balangir District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), leaving an elderly woman critically injured and several others hurt.
According to sources, Radha Jani, a resident of Bahali village under Muribahal block, was admitted to the Muribahal Community Health Centre (CHC) after going into labour. She gave birth to healthy twin girls on Friday morning. However, due to the need for advanced medical care, doctors referred Radha and her newborns to Balangir DHH.
Tragedy struck during the transfer when the ambulance carrying Radha, her husband, newborn daughters, and her mother-in-law, Dutia Bhoi, experienced a sudden oxygen cylinder explosion. The blast caused serious injuries to Radha’s husband and critically injured Dutia Bhoi.
The victims were immediately rushed to Balangir DHH. While Radha and the newborns are reportedly safe, the condition of her mother-in-law remains critical. Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the explosion, raising concerns over ambulance safety standards in the region.
