Bhubaneswar, April 3: A notorious criminal, identified as Sushant Nayak, was injured in a police encounter near Talabeda village in Talcher during the early hours of Thursday. The encounter took place when a special team of Angul police attempted to apprehend Nayak, who has multiple criminal cases registered against him.

According to reports, Nayak opened fire on the police team in a bid to escape. In response, the police retaliated in self-defense, during which Nayak sustained a bullet injury to his left leg. He was immediately rushed to the Angul District Headquarters Hospital for treatment. His condition is reported to be critical but stable.

During the operation, police also detained another individual who was accompanying Nayak at the time of the encounter. Officials are currently interrogating him to gather more details about Nayak’s criminal activities and possible associates.

Meanwhile, a detailed investigation has been launched to probe Nayak’s involvement in various criminal cases, including robbery, extortion, and violence. The police are also verifying whether Nayak had connections with any organized crime syndicates in the region.
