Ravenshaw University students protest over unchecked entry of outsiders, stage hunger strike

Bhubaneswar, April 3: Students of Ravenshaw University in Cuttack staged a protest and hunger strike outside the Vice Chancellor’s office on Thursday, demanding action against the unchecked entry of outsiders into the campus. The protest erupted after reports of outsiders trespassing into the university premises and allegedly assaulting hostel students.
According to sources, the students raised concerns about police inaction, stating that despite repeated complaints, authorities have failed to address the issue. Frustrated by the lack of response, students resorted to a hunger strike, urging the university administration to take immediate action and ensure their safety.
One of the protesting students said, “Outsiders are entering our campus and hostels, physically assaulting us, yet neither the police nor the university authorities are paying heed to our grievances. We demand strict action against them.”
Notably, in September 2024, a Proctorial Board meeting had imposed a ban on outsider entry after 6:00 PM, but the rule has been neglected. The recent incident has reignited students' concerns about security within the university campus.
