Woman kidnaps boyfriend, demands ₹10 lakh ransom; arrested with five accomplices

Bhubaneswar, April 2: In a shocking case of crime and betrayal, a woman in Bhubaneswar allegedly kidnapped her boyfriend and demanded a ransom of ₹10 lakh for his release. The incident took place in the Jharpada area, where the woman, identified as Prapti Sharma, plotted the abduction of her partner, Somnath, with the help of five accomplices.
According to reports, Somnath suspected Prapti of being unfaithful and often confronted her over the issue. In retaliation, she allegedly hired five men to kidnap him. The abductors then contacted Somnath’s sister and demanded ₹10 lakh, threatening to kill him if the ransom was not paid.
Following a missing complaint lodged by Somnath’s sister at Kharavela Nagar police station on March 31, the Commissionerate Police formed three special teams, including squads from Kharavela Nagar and Jatni police. Using mobile tracking technology, police traced Somnath’s location to a hotel near SUM Hospital in Khandagiri. The police arrested all six accused and seized two cars and four mobile phones.
Police Commissioner S. Dev Dutta confirmed that Prapti Sharma and her relatives orchestrated the kidnapping. The couple had been in a live-in relationship, staying in a rented house in Kharavela Nagar.
