Odisha CM announces ₹4 lakh ex gratia for family of deceased home guard aspirant

Bhubaneswar. March 27: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday announced an ex gratia of ₹4 lakh for the family of Saheba Dehury (19), who tragically lost his life during the physical examination for Home Guard recruitment in Deogarh district.
According to officials, a recruitment drive had been initiated to fill 60 Home Guard posts in the district, with the physical examination taking place on Wednesday. During the running test, Saheba suddenly collapsed and lost consciousness. Police personnel present at the venue immediately rushed to his aid and provided first response before shifting him to the Deogarh District Headquarters Hospital (DHH). However, doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
The incident has sparked concerns over the physical endurance requirements and medical preparedness during such recruitment drives. CM Majhi expressed his condolences to the bereaved family and assured necessary support. The authorities are expected to review the incident and take steps to prevent such tragedies in the future.
