Bhubaneswar, March 26: In a horrifying incident, the body of a newborn girl was found abandoned in a park near Mahesdihi under Sundergarh Town police station on Wednesday morning. The gruesome discovery has sent shockwaves through the community, as residents found stray dogs feeding on the infant’s remains.

According to initial reports, it is suspected that the baby was aborted and later dumped in the park, wrapped in a polythene sheet. The incident has sparked outrage, with locals condemning the inhumane act. Witnesses reported that a few tribal residents first noticed the body and immediately informed the police.

Local councillor Sumant Sahu expressed deep concern over the shocking incident. "Despite being educated, people continue to abandon or discard female infants. This is heartbreaking and unacceptable," he stated.

Police reached the spot soon after being alerted and retrieved the remains of the infant. A case has been registered, and authorities have launched an investigation to trace those responsible. The incident has reignited concerns over female foeticide and child abandonment in the region.
