Clash over Bahuda River mouth excavation leads to 40 arrests in Ganjam

Bhubaneswar, March 11: A violent clash between the villagers of Ramayapatna and Katuru under Golanthara police station limits in Ganjam district resulted in the arrest of 40 people. The confrontation erupted when villagers from Ramayapatna began excavating the Bahuda River mouth, triggering opposition from residents of Katuru.
According to reports, the dispute escalated into a physical altercation, leaving eight people injured—five from Katuru and three from Ramayapatna. Among them, five seriously injured individuals were admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur, while others received treatment at a local hospital. All are reported to be in stable condition.
In response to the violence, Golanthara police took swift action, arresting 21 individuals from Ramayapatna and 19 from Katuru. To prevent further unrest, Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) has been imposed in the area, and three platoons of police have been deployed. The situation remains under control, and authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the cause of the clash and prevent future conflicts.
