Odisha Cadre IAS officer Tuhin Kanta Pandey appointed as Chairman of SEBI

Bhubaneswar, Feb 28: Senior IAS officer Tuhin Kanta Pandey has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved his appointment on Thursday.
A 1987-batch officer of the Odisha cadre, Pandey is currently serving as Union Finance Secretary. He will assume office as SEBI Chairman for an initial term of three years, succeeding Madhabi Puri Buch, whose tenure concludes on March 1, 2025.
“The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Tuhin Kanta Pandey, IAS (OR:1987), Finance Secretary and Secretary, Department of Revenue, to the post of Chairman, SEBI, for an initial period of three years from the date of assumption of charge or until further orders,” stated the official notification.
Earlier in January, the government invited applications for the position, with February 17, 2025, set as the submission deadline.
Pandey holds a Master’s degree in Economics from Punjab University, Chandigarh, and an MBA from the UK. His career spans key roles in both the Odisha and Union governments, including stints as Odisha’s Health Secretary, Transport Commissioner, and Collector of Sambalpur. He was appointed Union Finance Secretary in September 2024.
