Bhubaneswar, Feb 25: In a shocking incident, a Class X girl student from a government-run residential school in Chitrakonda, Malkangiri district, delivered a baby boy at the school hostel on Monday evening.

According to reports, the girl had just returned from her High School Certificate (HSC) examination when the incident occurred. The hostel warden, upon noticing the situation, informed her father, who rushed to the school only to discover that his daughter had already given birth.

Following the incident, Chitrakonda police arrived at the hostel, rescued the girl, and shifted her to the Chitrakonda Sub-Divisional Hospital for medical care. Doctors have confirmed that both the mother and the newborn are stable.

The incident has sparked outrage, raising concerns over the safety and well-being of students in government residential schools. The school headmaster has blamed the hostel warden, while parents have held the administration responsible for negligence.

Meanwhile, the District Welfare Officer (DWO) has launched an investigation to determine the circumstances leading to the pregnancy and identify any lapses in school management.
